Capri Medical Spa now offers the latest in protocols for acne. It includes Microdermabrasion, ALA, (a photosensitizing medication), and 20 minutes under the blue light. This protocol is producing better results than previous treatments using only one component.
The treatment is performed weekly for 5 to 10 treatments. The usual acne products are applied to the skin during the course of treatment. At the completion of the series, many patients experience clearing of the acne that is long lasting if not permanent. Therefore, a rigid regimen of acne skin care and oral antibiotics/Accutane is often unnecessary to continue. The treatment can be done for chest, back, and face. This procedure is appropriate for teenagers as well as adults.
About Acne
Acne can be divided into 3 levels of severity.
- Level 1: Is limited to the central part of the face. It consists of red, raised papules. The hair follicle is obstructed. This is common in the pre-teen years.
- Level 2: Occurs in the teen years on the face, chest and back. In addition to obstruction of the hair follicle, there are raised red pustules with increased inflammation. •
- Level 3: Tends to occur for women in their 3rd and 4th decade of life. It occurs around the mouth, chin, jaw line or upper neck. If an increase in hair growth on the body is noted, a work up for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is indicated. This condition is often made worse by steroidal creams, Benzoyl Peroxide, Topical Retinoids, or Alcohol based preparations.
